Agile and Scrum: What is the difference?

« Back to Glossary Index

While Agile and Scrum have certain similarities, they are not identical. Agile is a broader concept or approach to product development that emphasizes iterative development, customer collaboration, and adaptability. Scrum, on the other hand, is a particular framework utilized inside the Agile approach to structure and manage development projects.

Along with other frameworks like Kanban and Lean, Scrum is one of those that belong within the Agile category. Scrum was created to assist teams in managing complex projects by segmenting them into smaller, more manageable units known as sprints. The team works on a list of tasks that have been prioritized during a sprint, evaluates their progress, and then modifies their strategy for the following sprint.

In conclusion, the Scrum framework is a part of the broader Agile frameworks. Although they are connected, they are not the same thing.
